ALBANY, N.Y. - With a full slate of league games for the ECAC Hockey women, there were plenty of outstanding performances to choose from. Three players emerged from the pack, and as a result have been honored with weekly league awards. Princeton’s Maggie Connors has earned Player of the Week honor, Yale’s Rebecca Vanstone earns Rookie of the Week, while Harvard’s Lindsay Reed received Goalie of the Week.
Connors led the nation in goals this past weekend, notching two tallies in each of the Tigers games, both of which came against nationally-ranked opponents. In Friday’s 5-0 win over No. 4 Cornell, the freshman scored two goals (including the game-winner), while dishing out a pair of assists en route to a 5-0 win. She followed that up with another two goals on Saturday, helping Princeton to a 4-4 tie against No. 9 Colgate, extending the undefeated streak to 18 straight games.
Vanstone is the first Yale player to earn weekly honors this season, as the rookie had a breakout week, registering six points (3G, 3A), and helping the Bulldogs go 2-1 this week. Her best game came on Friday against Yale when she scored a pair of goals, and added two assists while boasting a +4 on-ice rating.
Reed continues to emerge as one of the top goaltenders in the nation in just her rookie season, earning goalie of the week for the second time now after shutting out Dartmouth on the road Friday night. The New Vernon, N.J. native saved all 27 shots she faced, backstopping the Crimson to a key 1-0 league win.
