Swedish National Team goaltender and NCAA all-time saves leader Lovisa Selander has signed to play the 2019-20 NWHL season with the Boston Pride. Selander, who was selected 20th overall by the Pride in the NWHL Draft in December, joins BU’s Victoria Hanson to give Boston very strong goaltending as the club seeks its second Isobel Cup.
Selander, 23, was team captain at RPI and started all 34 games last season, had a 2.29 GAA, and was second in the nation in save percentage (.942). She was a Top Ten Finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. Among the highlights of her season were a 49-save shutout of Cornell in the ECAC playoffs, and a 58-save shutout on the road in the regular season against Robert Morris. Selander was honored as RPI’s MVP, ECAC Goaltender of the Year, ECAC All-Academic, and was RPI’s first-ever CCM/AHCA National All-America First Team selection.
“I am very excited to be joining the Boston Pride this season and feel fortunate to be continuing my playing career in the States,” said Selander. “I look forward to being challenged every day in the NWHL by competitive teammates as well as playing alongside two of my college teammates (Marisa Raspa, Whitney Renn). I can’t wait to get the season started!”
