ALBANY, N.Y. - The finalists for the 2018-19 ECAC Hockey women’s Best Forward have been announced, and Jessie Eldridge (Colgate), Sarah Fillier (Princeton), and Loren Gabel (Clarkson) have been named finalists.
Eldridge (Sr. / Barrie, Ont.) became the all-time leading scorer in Colgate women’s hockey history this season, recording 51 points this year to bring her career total to 160 and counting. She came on strong late in the season, registering a point in the final 11 games for the Raiders, helping them close out the season on an eight-game unbeaten streak.
Fillier (Fr. / Georgetown, Ont.) had a rookie season for the ages, leading the nation in average scoring with nearly two points-per-game. She recorded at least one point in 20 of the 25 games she played, helping the Tigers to an 18-6-5 record this year. She was twice named the Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association (WHCA) Rookie of the Month, and was a three-time ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week.
Gabel (Sr. / Kitchener, Ont.) re-wrote the Clarkson record books this season, becoming the all-time leading scorer while also eclipsing the 100-goal mark, and 200-point mark. She ended the year with a nation-leading 34 goals, while also dishing out 27 assists for a 61-point regular-season total. She was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week three times, and was also named the leagues Player of the Month twice.
All three players are not only finalists for Best Forward, but have also been named Top-10 Finalists fo the 2018-19 Patty Kazmaier Award, recognizing the top player in Division I women’s college hockey.
The winner of the 2018-19 Best Forward award will be announced at the Women’s Championship banquet on Friday, March 8.
