ALBANY, N.Y. - ECAC Hockey announced on Thursday the three women’s monthly award winners for the month of October. Clarkson’s Loren Gabel earns Player of the Month, while Brown’s Lizzy Gross takes home Rookie of the Month honors, and Lovisa Selander of RPI wins Goalie of the Month.
Gabel led the nation in scoring during the month of October, recording 16 of her 19 points during the month. She registered six goals, which allowed her to move to the top of the Golden Knights career goals lists with 83 over her three-plus years. She also recorded a Division I high ten assists, including five in last weekend’s 6-2 win over Syracuse.
Gross didn’t take long to adjust to the college level, as the freshman registered a hat trick in just her second collegiate game for Brown. She scored again and added a pair of assists a few days later, helping the Bears to their first 3-0 start since the 2000-01 season. She finished the month with seven points on four goals and three assists, and boasted a +5 on-ice rating.
Selander led the league in saves during the month of October, and also ranked in the top three in both save percentage (.968) and goals-against average (1.17). On October 12, she had one of the best games of her career, posting a 58-save shutout against Holy Cross to lead the Engineers to a 1-0 win. The Sollentuna, Sweden native finished the month with a 2-1-2 record.
