RPI routed by Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's hockey team shut out Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 4-0, on Friday night at People's United Center. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 11-16-4 overall (8-9-2 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 12-14-5 (9-9-1 ECAC Hockey).

Senior Melissa Samoskevich led the way with two goals, while sophomore Grace Markey and junior Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout also scored for the Bobcats.

Quinnipiac opened the scoring at 3:02 of the first period, when junior Kenzie Lancaster sent the puck back to the top of the blue line to sophomore Olivia Konigson in the Bobcats' offensive zone. Konigson passed to senior Melissa Samoskevich on the right side who scored for a 1-0 lead.

Six minutes later, Coutu-Godbout tallied after a pass down the left side from sophomore Taylor House. RPI senior netminder, Lovisa Selander, mishandled the redirection behind the goal and Coutu-Godbout was there to bury the puck into the empty net.

The Bobcats pushed their advantage to 3-0 at 12:50 of the opening stanza, when freshman Lexie Adzija sent the puck to sophomore Laura Lundblad up the left side. Lundblad skated down to the corner and passed to sophomore Grace Markey, who was near the left post. Markey chipped the puck past Selander.

A power play goal at 10:55 of the second capped for the scoring, as senior Randi Marcon passed to Lancaster in the middle of the Bobcats' offensive zone. Lancaster sent a backwards pass to Samoskevich, who buried the pass and recorded her second goal of the game.

Selander (10-13-5) finished with 37 saves, including double-digit stops in each period. She now has 3,890 for her career. Abbie Ives (11-13-4) had 14 stops at the other end of the ice.

The Engineers travel to fifth-ranked Princeton University tomorrow afternoon (3pm), while Quinnipiac hosts Union College (3pm).
