PRINCETON, NJ -- The NCAA First Star of the Week Maggie Connorscontinued her scoring success netting two goals as Princeton topped Union 4-1 on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Linemate Sarah Fillier had a goal and an assist while junior defenseman Claire Thompson tallied two helpers. Freshman goaltender Cassie Reale remains undefeated in goal, at 4-0, after stopping 32 shots.
Connors got things started with a 5x3 power-play goal in the first with Karlie Lund and Fillier assisting.
Fillier went end-to-end in the second period to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
After scoring her first goal of the season last week at Brown, MacKenize Ebel notched another tonight. It came at the end of a Princeton penalty kill as the Tigers did a great job this evening, going 7 for 7. Freshman Mariah Keopplepicked the puck off the boards and Ebel had a step on her defender to take it the other way.
Six minutes later Grace Heitling prevented the shutout for Reale with her fifth goal of the season at 17:46.
Connors put the win away as she converted on a power-play opportunity on a too many men call after Union had seven players on the ice. Junior Carly Bullock and Thompson had the assists.
Amelia Murray made 49 saves for the Dutchwomen as the Tigers outshot them 53-33.
Princeton, now 18-3-5 overall and 15-1-3 in the ECAC, remain in first place with a three point edge on Cornell. Clarkson lost a 3-2 game to Dartmouth in overtime and now is in third place with 28 points. Colgate's win over Yale sits them fourth with 27.
Princeton honors the Class of 2019 tomorrow afternoon on Senior Day as the Tigers host RPI at 3 p.m.
