RPI fall at No. 6 Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – Kristin O'Neill netted a hat trick to lead the sixth-ranked Cornell University women's hockey team to a 5-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. With the win, the Big Red improve to 16-2-5 overall (13-2-1 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 11-12-5 (8-7-1 ECAC Hockey).

O'Neill scored the first two goals of the game, including the first tally, which came just 1:21 into the first period. Maddie Mills led the rush and made a last second feed across the top of the crease to O'Neill, who fired into an open net.

The hosts doubled their advantage at 11:58 of the second, after RPI senior goaltender Lovisa Selanderturned in one of her numerous highlight reel saves. O'Neill made it 2-0, off a feed from Mill and Amy Curlew.

Less than two minutes later, Grace Graham netted her seventh goal of the season from Sam Burke to give the Big Red a 3-0 lead.

Early in the third, Cornell made it 4-0 on a power play goal by Lenka Serdar. Graham and Diana Buckley. The Big Red added a fifth goal with a second remaining on the clock, as O'Neill completed the hat trick.

Selander (9-11-5) finished with 48 saves in the game, including 22 in the second and 16 in the third. Marlene Boissonnault (13-2-4) had 11 stops.

The Engineers return to action next weekend, when they host Dartmouth and Harvard on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (3pm), respectively. Cornell visits Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
