Brown Drops Road Game at Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 6 Clarkson, 6-0, on Saturday night at Cheel Arena.

"Clarkson is a team that's going to capitalize on any mistakes we make and they did," said head coach Carisa Wahlig. "It's great to play against a team like that to give you an idea of how high your compete level needs to be in order to be successful."

Clarkson (18-5-1, 9-3-0 ECAC ) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play with the help of two breakaways. Elizabeth Giguere registered the first tally at 5:37 and Loren Gabel and T.T. Cianfarano added scores at 11:06 and 15:27, respectively. Brown (5-12-2, 2-8-2 ECAC) was whistled for the only infraction of the period but killed off the penalty.

The Golden Knights put in two more in the second for a 5-0 advantage with Josiane Pozzebon scoring at 3:46 and Gabel recording her second at 11:57. The Bears had two power play opportunities in the stanza but were shutout by the Golden Knights.

Taylor Sawka generated the final goal of the contest at 8:11 of the third. Brown concluded the frame going 2-for-2 on the penalty kill to improve to 3-for-3 in the game.
 
Junior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) ended the day with 39 saves, her seventh game of the season with 30 or more saves. Kassidy Sauve contributed 10 saves in the win for Clarkson.

Offensively, senior Abby Niewchas (Cochrane, Alberta) registered four shots while junior Sena Hanson(New Brighton, Minn.) and freshman Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) each generated two.
 
Brown will next return to Meehan Auditorium to host Union on Friday, Jan. 25 and Rensselaer on Saturday, Jan. 26. Friday's game will begin at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's contest will start at 3:00 p.m.
