Reyes reaches 100 points; celebration spoiled as St. Lawrence loses to RPI

TROY, N.Y. -- Blake Orosz scored 11 seconds into overtime to lead Rensselaer to a 3-2 win over the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team in an ECAC Hockey contest on Saturday afternoon in Troy.

The Engineers, who had 21 seconds remaining in a power play to start the overtime period, won the opening faceoff of the extra frame, and Orosz lifted a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot over St. Lawrence goaltender Sonjia Shelly's shoulder to give RPI its first win over the Saints since October 29, 2010, and only the second in program history.

The loss clouded what would have been an occasion for celebration for Justine Reyes, who became the 29th member of the Paul Flanagan '80 Century Club, scoring her 100th career point in her 131st career game with an assist on the Saints' first goal of the game.

"Games down here are like this every year — one goal and tight," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells '92. "(RPI goaltender Lovisa) Selander made some great saves in the first or we could have been up by four.  With each save RPI gains momentum and they created some plays and finished the game on a beautiful goal."

Aimee Raithby gave the Engineers a 1-0 lead, finishing a pass from Taylor Schwalbe on a 2-on-1 break, halfway through the first period.

Nadine Edney scored a power play goal with just over five minutes to play in the opening frame, one-timing a pass from Reyes at the right side of the net to tie the game. Edney immediately grabbed the puck out of the net to commemorate Reyes' achievement. Kalie Grant also picked up an assist on the play.

Kayla Nielsen gave the Saints a 2-1 lead, picking up a loose puck in the right circle and lifting a wrist shot high over Lovisa Selander's glove for her first goal of the season. Steph Keryluk and Charlea Pedersen earned assists on the play.

But the Engineers came right back to tie the game 44 seconds later, as Sabrina Repaci one-timed a feed from Orosz from between the circles into the left side of the net.

Selander made 30 saves to earn the win for the Engineers, while Shelly stopped 23 shots, including a beautiful pad save moving left-to-right, to keep the game tied with less than three minutes to play in regulation.

With the loss, the Saints fell to 10-11-1, 5-5-0 in ECAC Hockey, while RPI moved to 8-10-4, 5-5-0.

The Saints return home next weekend to face Brown and Yale at Appleton Arena.
