Brown falls to Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by Yale, 4-1, at Meehan Auditorium on Saturday night. Junior Veronica Alois (Andover, Mass.) registered the Bears' goal on the night.

"We just aren't there yet," said head coach Carisa Wahlig. "We haven't been able to correct some mistakes that are costing us goals. Our third period was better."

Yale (5-12-0, 4-6-0 ECAC) quickly gained a 1-0 lead just eight seconds into the contest when Emma Vlasic recorded a tally. Alois was then able to tie the game for Brown (5-11-1, 2-7-1 ECAC ) later in the frame when she caused a turnover in the  offensive zone and fired a shot off a Yale defender that found the back of the net at 6:55.

The Bulldogs snuck in a goal from Julia Yetman with 42.3 seconds left in the opening stanza to take a 2-1 edge into the break.

Yale gained a two-goal lead (3-1) at 3:16 of the second when Rebecca Foggia notched a goal. The Bulldogs again scored at the end of the period, this time at 19:56 from Rebecca Vanstone for a 4-1 lead after two.

After getting outshot in the first two periods, Brown outshot Yale 10-8 in the third but neither team was able to score in the period.

Both teams were perfect on the penalty kill on the night, with each squad 3-for-3.

In net, freshman Hayley Kliczko (Niles, Ill.) concluded the contest with 26 saves while Tera Hofmann had 19 stops for the Bulldogs.
