NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Rebecca Vanstone picked a good night to have a career-best outing. Points are crucial as teams begin the ECAC Hockey stretch run and the Yale Women were hosting travel partner Brown at Ingalls Rink. Vanstone scored two goals and assisted on a pair in the Bulldogs' 5-2 win over the Bears.
The rookie from Mississauga, Ontario, jumped on a rebound early in the third period to give the Elis a two-goal cushion and then put the game away with a wrist shot from the left circle midway through the frame. Vanstone assisted on her team's second and third tallies.
The ice was tilted for the home team in the first period with the Elis (4-12-0, 3-6-0 ECAC) getting the first nine shots on goal. The sixth one found the net. Saroya Tinker's power-play wrister from the right dot zipped past Lauren Rippy's glove at 9:59 to give the Blue a 1-0 lead.
Yale's 11th shot also brought the fight song. Charlotte Welch, who had a goal and three assists, followed up a shot from Lauren Moriyama and slipped the puck around a defender and the goalie. The Bulldogs were not done scoring. With 6.6 seconds left in the first, Emma Seitz notched her first career tally by going bar-down on a rush from the left side.
The Bears (5-10-1, 2-6-1) awoke in the second frame, outshooting the Bulldogs 14-6 and scoring a pair of goals. The second tally came on a 5-on-3.
The two teams meet against Saturday afternoon at Providence in a contest airing live on ESPN+.
