Clarkson Falls to Northeastern in Belfast

In a battle between two top 5-ranked national powers over in Belfast, Northern Ireland fifth-ranked Clarkson University fell to No. 3 Northeastern 3-1 in game 2 of the Friendship Series before 1,861 fans at SSE Arena early on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, Clarkson and Northeastern skated to a 3-3 tie.

The Golden Knights, who saw a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) come to a close, stand at 14-5-1 overall. At 5-3 in ECAC Hockey, Clarkson resumes league play with a trip to NY's Capital district region to face off against Rensselaer and Union this coming weekend.

Northeastern (14-2-3) outshot the Green and Gold 29-24 and never trailed in the contest.

The Huskies struck first to open the scoring on a goal by Kasidy Anderson off a faceoff deep in the Clarkson zone at 6:64.

Minutes after killing off a lengthy 5-on-3 Northeastern power play, Clarkson got on the scoreboard.

Senior left wing Loren Gabel (Kitchener, ONT) scored her second goal of the weekend and 16th of the season to tie the game at 14:50. Gabel, who moved into a tie for second on the Knights' all-time scoring charts with her 92nd career tally and 178th point, fired in a shot from the left circle after senior defenseman Josiane Pozzebon (Bourget, ONT) freed the puck with hard work along the boards.

After a scoreless second period, Northeastern tallied twice in the final frame to extend its unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1).

Alina Mueller scored the game-winner at 7:19 of the third period, followed by an insurance goal from Anderson with 4:07 remaining.

Clarkson grad Student Kassidy Sauve (Whitby, ONT) finished with 26 saves, including 13 first-period stops. Aerin Frankel posted 23 saves for the Huskies.

Clarkson went 0-of-3 on the power play and killed off all five of the Huskies' man-advantage situation.
