Brown defeated by RIT, suffers weekend sweep

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by RIT, 2-0, in the series finale on Saturday at Meehan Auditorium. Sophomore Lauren Rippy (Plymouth, Mich.) tied her career-high and had 34 saves to lead the Bears.

"We ran a short bench today and I was much happier with our work ethic," said head coach Carisa Wahlig.

Brown (5-9-1) got off to a slow start offensively in a scoreless first period but ended the frame with six shots on goal including three on the power play. Rippy helped keep the clean period with 12 saves.

The Bears had a solid second but RIT (7-10-4) would register the lone goal in the stanza and take a 1-0 lead with a tally by Jordan Marchese at 12:35 after a flurry of shots. Both teams registered 14 shots in the period. The Bears had two opportunities on the power play and recorded eight shots but could not light the lamp.

RIT increased its lead to two at 10:39 of the third when Kathryn Kennedy put in a score. The Bears again had two power plays in the period but could not capitalize.

Both teams were shutout on special teams overall with Brown 0-for-6 and RIT 0-for-4. The Tigers outshot the Bears 12-6 in the opening period but shots were even for the final two with 14 generated by each team in the second and 10 apiece in the third. Terra Lanteigne made 30 saves in the opposing net.

Freshman Lizzy Gross (Scarborough, Maine) paced Brown in shots with six while sophomore Darby Melia(Marshfield, Mass.) had five and sophomore Kaitijane Blumberg (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) tallied four.
Brown will next return to ECAC action with a home-and-home series versus Yale. The first game will be played in New Haven, Conn. on Friday, Jan. 11 at 6:00 p.m. while game two will be in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 6:00 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
