Thompson Scores Twice as Princeton Takes Down Quinnipiac

Junior Claire Thompson scored twice in the third period to help lead Princeton past Quinnipiac, 3-2, on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink to remain unbeaten in ECAC Hockey action.

No. 10 Princeton (6-2-3, 5-0-2) opened the scoring at 13:29 of the first when freshman Maggie Connors finished off a feed from classmate Sarah Fillier from the low slot with a quick wrist shot that found the top left corner.

After a scoreless second period Thompson scored her first of two on a power play early in the third. She took a pass from senior Karlie Lund at the point and sent a shot of the middle of the right post and in to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Just over ten minutes later, Thompson notched another power-play goal with a shot from the high slot, this time it knocked off the bottom of the left post and went it.

On a power play late in the third, Quinnipiac senior Kenzie Lancaster put the Bobcats on the board when she deflected a point shot past sophomore goalie Rachel McQuigge. Just 56 seconds later, sophomore Brooke Bonsteel finished off a feed from classmate Taylor House at the top of the crease to cut the Tigers lead to one.

McQuigge held on in the final minute and finsihed the game with 39 saves. Junior Abbie Ives (4-6-3) made 49 stops for the Bobcats.

The Tigers head to Quinnipiac tomorrow to complete the home-and-home series with a game at 4 p.m.
