New Haven, Conn. -- Yale netminder Tera Hofmann made 21 saves in a 1-0 loss to the University of Connecticut that saw the Elis post 17 shots-on-goal in the third period alone.
Saturday's consolation game in the 15th annual Nutmeg Classic was a defensive battle. Neither team found the net through the first two periods of play, but UConn's Viki Harkness broke the stalemate midway in the third off a two-on-one breakaway opportunity.
The Elis pushed the gas in the third period, with 35 total shots attempted. Senior captain Emma Vlasic jumped on a rebound out in open ice and slapped the puck off the crossbar in one of Yale's best scoring opportunities.
Hofmann's save percentage climbs to .945, which is good for the second best save percentage of any goaltender in the Ivy League.
The Bulldogs host No. 2 Minnesota next weekend in a two-game series at Ingalls. Puck drop is slated for 6:00 on Friday and 3:00 on Saturday.
