Brown Falls to No. 3 Clarkson

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 3/3 Clarkson, 9-1, on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium. The Bears trailed by just one and tied up the contest early in the second period, but the Golden Knights would score five times in the frame to pull away for the victory.

"Clarkson is a great team and proved why they won the national championship last year," said head coach Carisa Wahlig. "We had one solid period, but weren't able to play up to their level for longer than that. They made us pay for every miscommunication and mistake."

It looked like the two teams would head into the first intermission scoreless but Kristy Pidgeon gave Clarkson (10-1-0, 3-0-0 ECAC) a 1-0 lead at 17:58. Brown (5-4-1, 2-4-1 ECAC) killed off the only infraction of the period while junior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) ended the stanza with 11 saves.

Junior Sena Hanson (New Brighton, Minn.) tied up the game (1-1) soon into the second at 1:18 when she put in her team-leading seventh goal of the year. Sophomore Abby Nearis (Beverly, Mass.) had the assist on the score.

The Golden Knights tacked on two goals by Tia Stoddard (3:01) and Michaela Pejzlova (6:58), respectively, after Hanson's tally to take a 3-1 lead. The Bears were awarded a 5-on-3 advantage at 11:34 for 30 seconds but had two shots blocked during the opportunity.

Clarkson then followed by recording three goals in 2:20 to claim a 6-1 advantage into the break.

The Golden Knights added three goals in the third, including a short-handed and power-play goal for the 9-1 win.

Isaac made 26 saves in net through two periods while freshman Hayley Kliczko (Niles, Ill.) came up with 10 stops in the third. Kia Castonguay made 17 saves in the Clarkson goal.
Brown will next close out the first half of ECAC play in 2018 by hosting No. 9/9 St. Lawrence tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 17, at 3:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
