Brown blown out by Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by Princeton, 7-2, on Saturday at Hobey Baker Rink. Freshman Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) and senior Bridget Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) contributed goals for the Bears on the day.

Princeton (2-2-0, 2-0-0 ECAC) benefited from a three-goal first and third period while each team recorded a goal in the second frame.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead five minutes into the first period with scores from Sarah Verbeek (2:05) and Maggie Connors (5:02). Claire Thompson made it 3-0 Princeton with a power-play goal at 14:28. Princeton was 1-for-1 in its lone extra skater opportunity while Brown (3-2-0, 0-2-0 ECAC) was 0-for-1.

Princeton opened the second period scoring at 11:18 with its second power-play goal, this one coming from Sarah Fillier. Maloney put the Bears on the board at 14:19 on a power-play score, her first collegiate tally. Sophomore Abby Nearis (Beverly, Mass.) and junior Veronica Alois (Andover, Mass.) collected the assists on the goal.

In a penalty filled second, Brown went 1-for-3 on the power play with Maloney's score and was 4-for-5 in killing off its infractions.

Carly Bullock gave the Tigers a 5-1 advantage 1:13 into the third. Carey scored her third goal of the season at 9:49 with the help of freshman Lizzy Gross (Scarborough, Maine) to bring the game to 5-2 Princeton. Maggie Connors closed out the scoring with the last two tallies at 9:49 and 15:42.

Each team was called for three infractions in the third and both went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. Overall the Bears were 1-for-7 on the power play while Princeton was 2-for-9.

Freshman Hayley Kliczko (Niles, Ill.) recorded 15 saves on the afternoon, all coming in the first, while junior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) closed out the contest with a season-high 40 saves through two periods. Cassie Reale turned away 17 shots for the Tigers in the opposing net.
Brown will next return home to Meehan Auditorium and host Colgate and Cornell in an ECAC weekend on Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4. Friday's game against the Raiders will start at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's matchup versus the Big Red will begin at 3:00 p.m. Both contests will be broadcast on ESPN+.
