Brown Edged by Dartmouth in Final Seconds

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Dartmouth scored the go ahead goal with 44.9 seconds remaining in the third period to defeat the Brown women's hockey team in heartbreaking fashion, 3-2, at Meehan Auditorium on Friday night.

With the game tied 1-1 after one period of play, senior Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) gave Brown (2-20-0, 1-14-0 ECAC) a 2-1 lead at 10:16 of the second with a power-play score. Junior Cara Najjar (Stoneham, Mass.) put the puck in front and it bounced off a Dartmouth skate to Donovan for her seventh of the year. Sophomore Sena Hanson (New Brighton, Minn.) was also credited with a helper.

Dartmouth (5-14-1, 3-11-1 ECAC) generated the game-tying goal at 13:17 of the third, Tess Bracken's second goal of the night. The contest looked like it was heading to overtime but Bracken completed the hat trick and gave the Big Green the victory at 19:15.

Sophomore Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) concluded the game with 36 saves in net, her ninth outing of the season with 30 or more saves, while Christie Honor made 26 stops for Dartmouth.

The Bears went 1-for-3 on the power play overall and were a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

In the first period, Dartmouth had the early lead in shots for the stanza but junior Bridget Carey(Weymouth, Mass.) put in the game's first score at 9:08, her fourth of the season. Junior Abby Niewchas (Cochrane, Alberta) registered the primary assist with Carey deflecting in her shot. Sophomore Alley Rempe (Calgary, Alberta) also contributed an assist. The Big Green tied the game at the end of the first, scoring two seconds after an expiring Bears penalty (1:56 - Tess Bracken).

After being outshot in the first period, the Bears held the advantage in the second, 13-9, and carried a 2-1 lead into intermission with Donovan's tally.

The Bears close out the weekend tomorrow (Jan. 27) and welcome Harvard to Meehan Auditorium for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
