Brown Defeated by Princeton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by Princeton, 5-2, to close out the season on Saturday at Meehan Auditorium. Senior Julianne Landry (Hanover, Mass.) finished the contest with a career-high 49 saves on Senior Day.

Princeton (13-12-4, 11-10-1 ECAC) concluded the first period with a 2-0 lead with scores from Claire Thompson (12:39) and Carly Bullock (14:55). The Tigers increased their lead in the second when Thompson register her second at 1:24 for a 3-0 advantage.

The Bears (2-27-0, 1-21-0 ECAC) were whistled for the game's first penalty at 8:59 of the second and their penalty kill unit fought off the infraction, preventing the Tigers from getting a shot off in the two minutes.

Brown gained momentum with a tally from senior Katie Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.), her second goal in as many days, at 11:29 but Princeton would generate a goal just before the end of the stanza from Amanda Harris (19:18). Junior Abby Niewchas (Cochrane, Alberta) picked up an assist with the original shot on K. Swanstrom's score while sophomore Steph Rempe (Calgary, Alberta) also contributed a helper.

The Bears fought off two penalties to open the third but Karlie Lund would score a power-play goal on Princeton's third chance in the frame at 11:20 for a 5-1 lead. Freshman Abby Nearis (Beverly, Mass.) put in a power-play score for the Bears soon after at 12:50 for her first-career goal. Senior Samantha Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.) notched the assist when she gathered a loose puck behind the net and fed it to Nearis.

Landry ended with a career-best 49 saves, including 22 in the third period while Alysia DaSilva made 20 stops for Princeton.

The Tigers were 1-for-4 overall on power play opportunities while the Bears were 1-for-2.
