Bullock Nets Two as Princeton Falls to Harvard

Sophomore Carly Bullock scored twice for Princeton and Stephanie Neatby turned away 32 shots but a third period power-play goal by Harvard pushed the Crimson to the win, 3-2 on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink in the Tigers' ECAC opener.

Bullock proved why she leads the nation in goals per game - after scoring three last weekend - she now has five in three games. She put her team on the board at 6:04 as Princeton converted on its first power-play opportunity. Defenders Claire Thompson and Stephanie Sucharda played catch along the blue line before Bullock got the puck inside the left circle and roofed a shot gloveside on Beth Larcom.

Less than three minutes later, Lunasa Sano knotted it up as she had the final whack at the puck after a scrum out in front. The Crimson kept hacking away at the puck before Sano finally was able to get it out from under Neatby and push it over the line.

Keely Moy put the Crimson on top 2-1 at 18:04 of the first when she intercepted a pass in the Princeton slot and scored the unassisted tally.

Neatby had a great save at the end of the period, robbing Val Turgeon with a great catch on the left side, her 18th of the period as Harvard had the 20-4 upperhand in shots on goal.

Bullock put away the only goal of the second period as the Tigers' offense got going and outshot the Crimson 13-5. After getting the puck at the left point from Karlie Lund, Bulluck sent it into the right corner for Annie MacDonald and then skated to the slot when she one-timed the puck over the blocker of Larcom.

The game winner came from Brooke Jovanovich at 6:49 as Harvard converted on its second power-play chance of the game. Jovanovich hit the back door after a drive by Kat Hughes from the right point.

Princeton put the extra skater on with 1:09 remaining but couldn't get the tying goal.

Larcom finished with 23 saves as Harvard improves to 2-0 on the season.

Princeton now 0-2-1 hosts Dartmouth tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
