Bulldogs Take Tie In Nutmeg Classic

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Emma Vlasic fired in a goal while collecting two assists in Friday's tie against Quinnipiac. With another game on the weekend slate, Vlasic decided to continue her hot streak.

Vlasic scored twice, first year forward Greta Skarzynski assisted both, and Gianna Meloni stopped 36 shots in Saturday's 2-2 tie against Penn State.

Yale (2-6-4) pounced early, with Vlasic's second goal in two days just 1:40 into the first period. Skarzynski picked up the assist, her third point of the weekend.

Point number four for Skarzynski set up the fifth point for Vlasic. Just 6:55 into the second period, Skarzynski took a feed from Mallory Souliotis and dished it to Vlasic, who collected her second goal of the day. The tally gave Yale a 2-0 lead.

Penn State (2-7-8) answered in the final frame, cutting into the lead with a goal also 6:55 into the period. With 1:51 left on the clock, the Nittany Lions tied the game on an unassisted goal.

Overtime proved empty for both sides, with each earning a tie in both games on the weekend.

Meloni was superb in her third career start, holding the fort while Yale was outshot 38-18.

Vlasic finished with three goals and two assists in the Nutmeg Classic, while Skarzynski picked up two goals and two assists. Souliotis had two assists as well, finishing a +2 for the weekend.
