Princeton Falls to Merrimack

Princeton Falls to Merrimack

Princeton outshot Merrimack by a hefty margin but a single goal with 40 seconds left in the second period to take Game 1 of the two-game series on Friday night at Lawler Rink.

The Tigers had a 31-18 shot advantage over the Warriors, but couldn't find an answer for Samantha Ridgewell who earned the shutout with 31 stops. Senior Alysia DaSilva made 17 saves for Princeton in her first loss of the season.

Felila Manu blocked a Princeton shot at the top of the left circle and kicked the puck over to teammate Mikyla Grant-Mentis. Grant-Mentis had a step on everyone else, and took the puck up the ice for the breakaway goal.

The Tigers pulled DaSilva for the extra skater with 1:10 remaining and got a two-player advantage when Manu was called for a cross check with 19 seconds remaining but Princeton wouldn't be able to get the tying goal.

Game 2 is Saturday, Nov. 25 at 4 p.m., at Lawler Rink.
