Clarkson Falls in OT to Quinnipiac

The Clarkson University Women's Hockey team suffered its third one-goal loss of the season as Quinnipiac stunned the fourth-ranked Golden Knights 3-2 in overtime Friday evening at Cheel Arena.

Clarkson, which stands at 11-3-1 overall and 3-2 in ECAC Hockey, will look to rebound when it hosts Princeton on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Clarkson held a 2-1 lead over Quinnipiac (8-6-0, 4-3-0) midway through the third period on a goal by freshman Kristy Pidgeon (Ingleside, ONT) at 10:58. The Bobcats, however, tied it up late in regulation with a power-play tally from Kenzie Lancaster at 17:10 for her second goal of the night. Quinnipiac skated away with the victory when Melissa Samoskevich knocked in a rebound 25 seconds into the sudden-victory period.

Quinnipiac took a 1-0 first-period lead at 15:49 with Lancaster scoring right off the draw from the left side of the Knights' senior goaltender Senior Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT).

Clarkson's top line came through for the Knights' first goal midway through the middle frame to tie the game. Sophomore center Michaela Pejzlova (Pardubice Czech Rep.) took a centering pass from behind the net from junior left wing Loren Gabel and fired in a quick shot at 12:38 for her 11th goal of the year. Freshman right wing Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) also assisted.

Clarkson outshot Quinnipiac 26-20. The Knights killed off the Bobcats' first six power-play opportunities, but the visitors connected on their seventh and final man-advantage to tie the game last in the third frame. Clarkson was 0-3 on the power play.

Tiley finished with 17 saves, while Abbie Ives posted 24 stops to pick up the win for Quinnipiac.
