Landers Nets One in Conference Loss to Bulldogs

HANOVER, N.H. – After being tied at one after two periods, Yale scored four goals in the third period to defeat Dartmouth, 5-1, at Thompson Arena on Friday evening. The Big Green dipped to 2-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in ECAC Hockey play, while the Bulldogs improved to 2-4-1 and 1-3-1.

Junior Kate Landers played very well, scoring Dartmouth’s lone goal and leading the team with six shots, while senior Hailey Noronha and sophomore Christina Rombaut both had four. Rombaut also ended the game with a point with her assist on Landers’ marker. In net, junior Christine Honor had 22 saves in the loss.

It was Yale that broke the tie and got on the board first, finding the back of the net at 1:25 of the second, just 16 seconds into the power play. It took over 10 minutes, but Dartmouth answered when Rombaut intercepted a pass deep in the Bulldogs’ zone and passed to Landers, who did not hesitate and fired past a Yale defender, finding the left corner of the net to even the score at 14:56.

With both teams looking to break the tie, play was faster and more aggressive in the third. The Big Green had a number of opportunities, but goalie Kyra O’Brien got in the way of all of them. Yale scored a trio of goals within a nine-minute span and then one more with 8.1 seconds remaining on the clock made it a 5-1.

Dartmouth will return to action on Saturday, hosting Brown at 2 p.m. After that, the Big Green will have almost two weeks away from the ice, returning to Thompson the day after Thanksgiving to take on Holy Cross.
