Finalists Named for League’s Goaltender-of-the-Year Award

ALBANY, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey (@ecachockeyMWD1) today announced the finalists for the 2016-17 Women’s Goaltender of the Year Award. Grace Harrison, St. Lawrence, Steph Neatby from Princeton and Shea Tiley, Clarkson have each been nominated for the honor by the League’s coaches. These three netminders anchored some of the top defenses in the conference this season.

Sophomore Grace Harrison tied for the lead in ECAC Hockey with a school record eight shutouts, including five in conference play, while also tying for the league lead with 21 wins. Her efforts were rewarded as she was named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week four times (Nov. 1, Nov. 8, Nov. 23 and Nov. 29); the league’s Goaltender of the Month for November and ASN Player of the Week on Nov. 29. Harrison set a school record with a shutout streak of 226 minutes, 15 seconds from Oct. 22 to Nov. 4 and broke that record a month later with a streak of 227:42 from Nov. 11 to Dec. 1. She posted a 1.54 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage on the season, and was slightly better in conference play, with a 1.44 GAA and a .933 save percentage.

Currently sporting an 11-4-1 overall record, netminder Steph Neatby started Princeton on its 11-game unbeaten streak in late November. She ranks second nationally in goals-against average (1.41) and save percentage at .953. Three of her four shutouts came in conference play this season. Logging nearly 700 minutes in league games, she only surrendered a total of 13 goals and showcased a league-best .958 save percentage. She has made 30+ saves in seven games with a season-high and program record 60-save performance in a 3-2 triple overtime loss to Quinnipiac in postseason quarterfinal action on Feb. 24. Her solid play was recognized throughout the season earning Goaltender of the Week honors on four occasions (Dec. 13, Jan. 3, Jan. 10 and Jan. 17); Rookie of the Week once (Dec. 13); back-to-back Goaltender of the Month honors (Dec., 2016 and Jan. 2017); Rookie of the Month for Jan., 2017); and HCA’s National Rookie of the Month (Jan., 2017).

Backstopping Clarkson to the ECAC Hockey regular season title Shea Tiley won a league-high 16 conference games. The former ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year (2014-15) posted three league shutouts, including making 21 saves in 1-0 win over Quinnipiac (2/11), which clinched the No. 1 seed for the Knights. Logging over 1100 minutes in league-play, Tiley only allowed 28 goals, while recording a 1.49 goals-against average. While leading the Golden Knights to the league’s third-best scoring defense, Tiley registered 370 saves in She was also named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week on Feb. 15.
