Brown Defeated by No. 9 Princeton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 9 Princeton, 4-0, on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium. After holding a slight 1-0 lead after one period, Princeton scored two goals in the second and added one in the third to claim the win.

Princeton (3-0-0, 1-0-0 ECAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead at 4:04 of the first period while on the power play with a rebound score from Claire Thompson. Morgan Sly had the original shot in the sequence with a pass coming from Cassidy Tucker.

The opening period closed with the teams even in shots, 7-7. The Tigers were able to fight off all three of their penalties in the stanza and capitalized on Brown's lone infraction.

The Tigers took advantage of the Bears' second penalty of the contest in the second period, scoring a power-play goal at 6:16 from Karlie Lund. Stephanie Sucharda and Thompson recorded the helpers on the goal. Lund, the 2015-16 ECAC Rookie of the Year, notched her second goal of the game soon after, at 15:47, to give Princeton a 3-0 lead. The Tigers ended the period with a 16-9 advantage in shots and were again 1-for-1 on the power play.

Brown (2-1-0, 0-1-0 ECAC) opened the third with a 5-on-3 opportunity at 2:14, but Alysia DaSilva was able to come up with key saves for Princeton in the series to keep Brown off the board. The Tigers later added their fourth goal at 11:15 from Keiko DeClerck.

Overall, Princeton edged Brown in shots, 31-22. The Tigers went 2-for-3 on the power-play in the game while the Bears went 0-for-5.

Senior Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) recorded 27 saves in net for Brown, including 14 stops in the second period, while DaSilva turned away 22 shots for Princeton.

Sophomore Abby Niewchas (Cochrane, Alberta) tallied a team-high five shots, while freshman Sena Hanson (New Brighton, Minn.) registered four.

The Bears return to action tomorrow (Oct. 29), hosting No. 5/4 Quinnipiac in a ECAC match-up at Meehan Auditorium. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m.
