Princeton is too much for Colgate

Sophomore Karlie Lund net her first hat trick of the season as the Princeton women's hockey team handed No. 5 Colgate its first loss of the season with a statement, taking down the Raiders 7-2.

The line of senior Molly Contini, freshman Carly Bullockand centered by Lund came together for the first time this season and clicked instantly – scoring five goals and four assists and a combined +12.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period with Bullock stripping the Raiders for a unassisted breakaway and Contini netting her fourth of the season.  Lund scored back-to-back goals in the first eight minutes of the second, as Princeton gained a 4-0 lead.

Colgate replaced starting goaltender Julia Vandyk with Liz Aubry, as Vandyk allowed four on 15 shots in the first 27:41.

Princeton wasn't done yet in the second as senior Cassidy Tucker converted on the Tigers' first penalty shot of the season. She was taken down by Lauren Wildfang on a fast break and made the Raiders pay with her fourth tally of the season.

Olivia Zafuto finally lit the lamp for Colgate at 14:54 of the second when she intercepted a pass at the blue line and skated in for the unassisted goal.

Freshman Claire Thompson, playing at forward tonight, nailed her second goal of the goal and Lund collected the hat trick as the pair scored 37 seconds apart as the Tigers went up 7-1 early in the third period. Lund seems to have a knack playing the Raiders as she had a hat trick against them last season in a 4-2 game at Starr Rink.

A power-play goal by Annika Zalewski in the slot after her team passed it around the umbrella was the final goal of the game at 13:13 of the third.

Senior Alysia DaSilva earned the win in net with 20 saves. Auby finished her 32:19 with 17 saves on 20 shots.

Princeton was 0 for 4 on the power play and 1 for 2 on the penalty kill.

Princeton hosts Cornell tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m., at Hobey Baker Rink. The Big Red skated to a 3-3 tie with No. 8 Quinnipiac this evening.
