Brown Drops Game to Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Senior Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) recorded a career-high 63 saves, but No. 5 Colgate defeated the Brown women's hockey team, 3-0, in conference action on Saturday afternoon at Class of 1965 Arena.

Cat Quirion registered Colgate's first goal, at 8:26 of the first period when she looped behind the net and slipped the puck across the line. Later on the in frame, as a Colgate power-play was winding down, Bailey Larson registered a power-play goal to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead at 14:20. Elvin closed out the period with 17 saves, while Julia Vandyk turned away three shots. Colgate went 1-for-2 on the power play in the opening stanza while Brown was 0-for-1.

The Raiders continued the offensive pressure in the second period, but Elvin stopped all 21 of the team's shots to keep the score 2-0 going into the third. Colgate had the lone infraction in the stanza, and fought off the penalty. Brown upped its shot total in the second, putting eight on goal.

Colgate tacked on its final goal at 5:19 of the third when Shelby Perry scored in a scramble in front of net. Elvin increased her save total in the final period, with 25 stops. Brown's penalty kill fought off five penalties in the period while Colgate defended one infraction.

Elvin finished the game with a career-high 63 saves, just falling short of the school-record 66 by Nicole Stock in the 2007-08 season. Vandyk closed out the game with 16 saves for the Raiders.

Overall Colgate was 1-for-7 on the power play while Brown was 0-for-2.

Junior Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) and freshman Sena Hanson (New Brighton, Minn.) each recorded three shots for the Bears.

The Bears will next return home to Meehan Auditorium to host two top-10 teams, in No. 7 Clarkson on Friday, Nov. 18 and No. 4 St. Lawrence on Saturday, Nov. 19. Friday's game will start at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's puck drop will be at 3:00 p.m.
