Dutchwomen End League Drought

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Freshman goaltender Alana Marcinko posted her third shutout of the season with 47 saves to highlight the Union College women's hockey team a 3-0 win over Brown on Saturday. It's Union's first ECAC Hockey win since 2004.

The win moves Union to 5-18-1 overall and 1-11-1 in the league while Brown moves to 2-12-4 overall and 0-9-3 in the league. The last league win for the Dutchwomen was on Feb. 28, 2004 when Union defeated Cornell 3-1 at home.

Brown kept Marcinko busy throughout the entire game but the freshman once again broke her game-high saves record with 47 made. In addition, she also has become the first goaltender to record four career shutouts in the Division I era in program history. Marcinko has entered a four-way tie with Heather Olney '02, Dana Smullyan '05 and Victoria Elkins '02 for the all-time shutout list.

It is the third straight game that Marcinko broke her game-high saves record.

Junior defenseman Perri Maduri scored her first goal came just two minutes into the game. Forwards Jeannie Sabourin and Lauren Hoffman were both credited for the assists. Hoffman leads the Dutchwomen with points (7) and assists (6).

Sophomore forward Molly Kate Devin scored her second goal in three games 6:28 into the second period with help from junior forward Marissa Gentile, who has posted another assist, beginning a two-game streak in that category.

Sophomore forward Émilie Arseneault scored her team-leading fifth goal on the season at 1:11 left in the game, with an assist from Lauren Cromartie.

Union will conclude it's four-game road trip on Jan. 22 at Harvard. Faceoff is at 7 p.m.
