Burke Murphy to Join SLU Hall of Fame

Seven distinguished Laurentians and one team will be recognized for their athletic achievements at the Robert J. Sheldon Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on Friday, September 15.

The induction ceremony will take place Friday, September 15 at 7 p.m. in Eben Holden, and is open to the public. Tickets are $25 per person and must be reserved in advance. Please call 315-229-5418 to make reservations.

The St. Lawrence Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1979, and the 2017 class will be the Hall's 39th. With the new inductees it will include 260 athletes, 12 coaches/administrators and 22 teams. This year's induction ceremony will the be first to honor the memory of former coach and athletic director, Bob Sheldon.

The ECAC Rookie of the Year in 1993, Burke Murphy '96 started his hockey career at St. Lawrence off with a bang and never looked back. After leading the team with 19 goals as a rookie, he led the team in both goals and points the next three seasons, finishing his career second on the Saints' all-time goal scoring list with 99 goals. He added 75 assists for 174 points in his career.

A Second-Team All-America selection and Hobey Baker Finalist as a senior, Murphy signed a contract with the Calgary Flames and spent two years playing in both the AHL and IHL. He then spent four years playing professional hockey in Europe, with three seasons in Germany and one in Italy. 

After retiring from hockey in 2002, Murphy returned to his native Ontario and currently works as a senior financial analyst in the Canadian government. He lives in Ottawa with his wife, Tammy, and their daughters, Addison and Alexa.
