Tingsryd (Sweden) announced Wednesday the signing of former St. Lawrence standout Kevin DeVergilio for the 2012-13 season. DeVergilio returns to Scandanavia - he joined Manglerud (Norway) in 2010-11 - after spending the 2011-12 campaign with Pontebba (Italy).
The Sterling Heights, Michigan native, enjoyed a very successful campaign with Pontebba. In 39 contests, DeVergilio scored 29 goals and set up 39 goals for 68 points. He added five points, including three goals, in three playoff games.
As a member of the Manglerud Stars, DeVergilio scored 10 times in 13 games. He also added six assists. In the postseason, DeVergilio totaled 13 points, including seven goals, in six contests.
Prior to heading overseas, DeVergilio spent the 2010-11 campaign with Elmira of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). As a member of the Jackals, he competed in 32 games, scoring seven times and adding 12 assists.
DeVergilio spent time with two winning teams in his rookie professional season of 2009-10. He started the year with the AHL's Texas Stars, eventual Calder Cup finalists, recording an assist in 13 games. With the Idaho Steelheads, DeVergilio totaled 18 goals and 20 assists for 38 points in 48 games as Idaho won the ECHL's 2010 Brabham Cup with a 46-17-2-5 record. In 15 postseason games, DeVergilio had three goals and seven assists as the Steelheads qualified for the 2010 Kelly Cup Finals.
DeVergilio's professional career started off with a bang, scoring two goals in his first professional game on April 3, 2009 with the Las Vegas Wranglers and notching two assists in the Wranglers' final regular-season game of 2008-09 the next night.
Prior to his professional career, DeVergilio played four seasons for St. Lawrence. DeVergilio was one of the Saints' top three scorers during each of his final three seasons with 32 points (2nd, 9g-23a) in 2006-07, 25 points (2nd, 8g-17a) in 2007-08, and 31 points (3rd, 11g-20a) in 2008-09. His freshman season of 2005-06 saw him post 25 points (14g-11a).
