It was just before 7 a.m. in Frankfurt when Ben Scrivens, the former Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender, sent a text to say he was ready to chat. He is playing for a KHL team based in Ufa, Russia, but was in Germany to spend time with his wife before leaving for South Korea, where he will represent Canada at the Pyeongchang Olympics.
“I'm in the process of getting used to new time zones,” he said.
The Winter Games open next month, and they will open without an NHL player in sight. Scrivens, who also played in Edmonton, Montreal and Los Angeles, was named to the Canadian team earlier this month.
