ALBANY, N.Y. - After Colgate and Union kicked off the regular-season last weekend, six ECAC Hockey men’s teams will be in action this week, as the college hockey season is now in full swing.
The Raiders got the weekend started last night with a trip to Ferris State. Despite outshooting the Bulldogs 29-23, Colgate dropped the contest by a final score of 3-1. They’ll have a good opportunity to bounce back on Sunday when they welcome No. 6/10 Boston College to the Class of 1965 Arena.
Quinnipiac begins its season with a matchup of two NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago when they take on American International in a home-and-home. The No. 9/13-ranked Bobcats will lean on a young but proven group of forwards to propel them to another deep post-season run this year.
RPI will square off with a pair of Hockey East opponents in UMass and UConn this weekend, both on the road. The Engineers are hoping for a repeat of last years matchup with the Huskies which they won 5-2 on goals from four different players.
Union’s season continues with a matchup against No. 15 Northeastern in Messa Rink. The Huskies were also ranked when Union came into town last year, but the Dutchmen left with a huge two-game sweep, beginning their run of dominant non-league play in 2018-19.
The Brent Brekke era will begin for St. Lawrence on Friday when the Saints travel to Mercyhurst for a two-game set. The team returns a bulk of its roster from last year, and will look to begin its climb back toward the top of ECAC Hockey.
Clarkson will travel to Michigan for a pair of games against the Wolverines this weekend. Despite losing juniors Nico Sturm and Jake Kielly to the professional ranks, the Golden Knights are re-stocked and are primed for their third straight run to the NCAA Tournament.
Four ECAC Hockey teams are currently ranked in the national polls, with two others receiving votes:
- No. 4/5 Cornell
- No. 9/13 Quinnipiac
- No. 11/11 Clarkson
- No. 19 Harvard
- RV Brown
- RV Dartmouth
