ALBANY, N.Y. - After a full weekend of action, ECAC Hockey has announced its men’s weekly award winners for the week ending January 20, 2019. Brandon Fortunato (Quinnipiac) has been named player of the week, while Owen Savory (RPI) takes rookie of the week, and Matthew Galajda (Cornell) earns the goaltending honors.
Fortunato helped the Bobcats pull out a thrilling 4-3 win at Boston University on Saturday night, scoring the game-winning goal with just 2.5 seconds remaining against his former team. The goal was one of two in the game for the senior, who also dished out an assist for a three-point night. He now ranks second in the league with 19 assists.
Savory picked up a win in RPI’s only game this week, turning away 31 shots to help the Engineers to a 5-2 victory over UConn. The Cambridge, Ont. native has been impressive so far this year, boasting a save percentage of .900 or better in each of his nine starts in net, including a .939 mark against the Huskies.
Galajda picked up his first shutout of the season in just his second start back from injury, stopping all 25 shots he faced against league rival Harvard on Friday. The shutout was the sophomores 10th in just 40 career starts, and also marked the 24th consecutive season that the Big Red have recorded at least one shutout.
