ALBANY, N.Y. - For the second consecutive week, Princeton forward Ryan Kuffner has been named the ECAC Hockey player of the week. He’s joined on the weekly honor roll by Cornell’s Michael Regush, who earns rookie of the week; and Union’s Darion Hanson, who takes goalie-of-the-week honors for the second time this season.
Kuffner leads Division I in goals per game and is tied for first in points per game after registering six points (three goals, three assists) this past week. The senior scored a goal and added an assist in Friday’s 4-3 overtime win over No. 12/13 Union. He followed it up Saturday with a four-point night, scoring two and assisting on two for a point on each Princeton goals against RPI.
Regush was extremely efficient in Cornell’s sweep of Northern Michigan this weekend, scoring twice on just two shots. Both of his goals came on the power play, and both were also the eventual game-winning goals. Regush is averaging nearly a point per game to this point in the season, having scored three goals and assisting on one through the team’s first six games.
Hanson came up big in Union’s win over No. 12/13 Quinnipiac on Saturday, stopping 34 of 35 shots. Much of the play came in Hanson’s end, as Union was out-shot 35 to 23 in the game. The .971 save percentage was the best in the league for the week, and Hanson now ranks second in the league for save percentage this season with a .926 mark.
