ALBANY, N.Y. - It’s the last full weekend of 2018 for the ECAC Hockey men, and there are some huge matchups both within and outside of the league.
A top-ten matchup between two of the nations hottest teams is on the slate this weekend, as No. 8 Quinnipiac and No. 1/2 UMass will compete in a home-and-home series. The Bobcats have won six consecutive games and sit at 13-2 on the year. They’ll look to cement their place as one of the top teams in 2018-19 against the Minutemen, who are riding a 10-game win streak of their own.
Princeton is out of the national polls for the first time this year, but could rebound quickly with a two-game set against No. 15/19 Arizona State. After this weekend, the Tigers will have played their last six games against nationally-ranked teams, as their grueling first half of the season continues.
Union and RPI will travel to Brown and Yale this weekend with league points on the line. The matchup between Yale and Union on Saturday will be a rematch of the “Friendship Four” semifinal game from two weeks ago, which saw the teams tie, with Union advancing after a shootout. Yale has been one of the hottest teams in the league of late, winning its last three games to move into a tie for second in the league standings.
Clarkson and St. Lawrence will renew the “North Country” rivalry this weekend, squaring off in an ECAC Hockey home-and-home. The two teams met a few weeks ago in the Lake Placid “Thanksgiving Face-off”, playing close for a period and a half before Clarkson went on a scoring spree to win it 6-2.
Colgate will be the final team in action, traveling to Niagara for a two-game set.
