ALBANY, N.Y. - Though the NCAA men’s ice hockey season technically got underway last weekend, this week will mark the start of the regular-season for five ECAC Hockey teams. Clarkson, Colgate, Quinnipiac, RPI, and St. Lawrence will all hit the ice for the first time, while Union continues its season after beating Army 4-1 last Saturday.
Cornell is the pre-season favorite coming into this year, and will also be on the ice this weekend for an exhibition contest against Laurentian on Sunday. The Big Red have some lofty expectations this season, as they were recently selected as a favorite to make the NCAA Frozen Four by ESPN analyst John Buccigross.
One of the more highly anticipated matchups of the weekend will begin Thursday night when Clarkson (No. 17 USCHO) travels to Penn State (No. 16 USCHO) for the first of a two-game set. Union’s home series against Omaha will also be in the national spotlight, as both teams were receiving votes in the most recent polls.
This week’s preview features last season’s award winners, matchup notes from every game, updates national polls, and more.
