Harvard Adds Seven Incoming First-Years to the Roster

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's ice hockey program has announced the seven-member incoming first-year class of 2023. The Crimson will welcome three forwards, three defensemen, and on goaltender. The group hails from two countries (U.S. and Canada) and represents five states and one province. 

Harvard made its 25th appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2018-19, the eighth-most among all Division I programs, and made its fifth straight trip to Lake Placid for ECAC Hockey championship weekend, finishing the year 19-11-3 (13-7-2 ECAC Hockey). 

Nick Abruzzese l Forward l Slate Hill, N.Y. l Minisink High School
Ranked as high as No. 122 on Central Scouting's list prior to the 2019 NHL Entry Draft… Notched 80 points (29 goals, 51 assists) in 62 games with the Chicago Steel of the USHL during the 2018-19 season…Led USHL in scoring during the 2018-19 season…Elected as an assistant captain for the Steel… Helped the Steel reach the Clark Cup Finals in 2019… Led the USHL in assists (51) and points (80) during the 2018-2019 campaign… Named to the USHL First All-Star Team in 2019…Recorded 13 goals and 23 assists in 56 games during the 2017-18 season.

Ranked No. 35 among North American skaters on NHL Central Scouting's final list prior the 2019 NHL Entry Draft… Member of the Dexter Southfield team the past two seasons… Named captain for the 2018-19 season… Appeared in 43 games notching 38 goals and 48 assists… Named to the 2018-19 USA Today All-USA Boys Hockey First Team…Played select games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and the US NTDP U17 and U18 Teams over the past two seasons… Notched four goals and two assists in 11 USHL contests…Captained the USA U18 team during the Hlinka Gretzky Cup…Put up two goals and three assists in the tournament in five games… Played under his uncle Dan Donato at Dexter… Cousin, Ryan Donato '19 played hockey for Harvard and is currently a member of the Minnesota Wild in the NHL… Cousin, Jack Donato '21 is current teammate at Harvard…Uncle, Ted Donato '91 is the current head coach at Harvard.

Member of the Madison Capitols of the USHL during the 2018-19 season, notching three assists in 31 games… Named assistant captain in 2018-19… Played for the Tri-City Storm of the USHL for two seasons and in 84 games recorded 16 points (three goals, 13 assists)…Played for the Dallas Stars Elite Hockey Club for three years…Named to 2018 USHL/NHL Prospects Game…Named West Coast Selects Team MVP for the 2013-2014 season. 

Mitchell Gibson l Goaltender l Phoenixville, Pa. l Phoenixville Area High School
Drafted by the Washington Capitals in 2018 NHL Draft (4th Round, #124 Overall)…Played in 43 games for the Central Illinois Flying Aces of the USHL during the 2018-19 season…Member of the Lone Star Brahmas of the NAHL during the 2017-18 season and finished the season 26-7-4, 11 shutouts, a 1.59 goals against average and a .935 save percentage… Set the NAHL single season shutout record (11)… NAHL All-Rookie First Team, NAHL Goaltender of the Year, NAHL Rookie of the Year (2017-18)...Participated in the CHIP program at Oaks Center Ice Hockey Arena…Helped organize the Church of the Savior Christmas Stocking Drive.

Ranked No. 116 among North American Skaters on NHL Central Scouting's final list prior to the 2019 NHL Entry Draft… Member of the Central Illinois Flying Aces of the USHL in 2018-19… Led team and finished seventh among defensemen in the USHL in scoring with 36 points (four goals, 32 assists) in 60 games…Named to 2019 USHL/NHL Prospects Game, recording an assist… Played for the US NTDP U-17 Team in the 2017-18 season and produced 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 34 games…Won a gold medal at the 2017 World Challenge in British Columbia… Father Pete was a golfer at Rollins College and mother Ellis played lacrosse at Colgate University and was a captain in 1990.

Ranked No. 39 among North American skaters on NHL Central Scouting's final list prior to the 2019 NHL Entry Draft… Member of the US NTDP U-18 Team during the 2018-19 season… Recorded 37 points (eight goals, 29 assists) in 64 games… Won a bronze medal with U.S. U18 team at the IIHF World U18 Championships in 2019… Selected for the 2018 All-American Prospects Game… 2018 Five Nations Champion... Won a gold medal at the 2017 U17 World Hockey Challenge… 2017 Four Nations Champion with the U.S. National U17 team… Varsity hockey, lacrosse and soccer player at St. Mark's School (Ma.) before joining U.S. NTDP program…Graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors from Northville High School (MI). 

Austin Wong l Forward l Calgary, Alberta l Strathmore High School
Drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft (7th Round, 215th overall)… Spent the last three seasons with the Okotoks Oilers in the AJHL… Has appeared in 155 games, recording 64 goals and 72 assists…Served as an assistant captain during the 2018-19 season Helped team win the regular season title posting a record of 52-6-2 during the 2017-18 season…Played in the AJHL Finals in in 2018…Appeared in the 2018 CJHL Prospects Game…Named MVP of 2018 CJHL Prospects Game, scoring two goals, including the game-winner, and recording an assist in the game…Brother, Tyler is a member of the Chicago Wolves in the AHL…Brother, Colton last played for the Okotoks Oilers in 2018.
