ALBANY, N.Y. - The finalists for the 2018-19 Rookie of the Year award have been released, and Peter DiLiberatore (Quinnipiac), Casey Dornbach (Harvard), and Owen Savory (RPI) have all been named top-three finalists.
DiLiberatore was one of the top performers on what was one of the highest performing freshman classes in the nation this year. The defenseman recorded 17 points on three goals and 14 assists in 2018-19, while leading the team with a +21 plus/minus rating. In games that he recorded at least one point this year, the Bobcats posted a 12-1-1 record.
Dornbach was one of the most prolific rookie scorers in the nation this season, tying for first in the country with 0.97 points per-game. He registered 28 points (7G, 21A) in just 29 games, which ranked third on the team and first among ECAC Hockey rookies. He’s been a catalyst for a Crimson team that closed out the season strong, boasting a 12-5-1 record since the start of 2019.
After earning the starting role in the early stages of the season, Savory has been a force in net for the Engineers. He’s allowed two or less goals 12 different times this season, including a 43-save shutout in the annual “Mayor’s Cup” game against Union in January. Overall, Savory has played to a .926 save percentage, including .920 in league play.
The 2018-19 Rookie of the Year award will be announced on Wednesday, March 20.
