ALBANY, N.Y. - ECAC Hockey has released its men’s monthly awards for the month of January, and players from Cornell, Yale, and Clarkson have all received honors.
Cornell’s Morgan Barron takes home Player of the Month honors after leading the league in scoring during January, registering 13 points (4G, 9A). The sophomore also led ECAC Hockey in a number of other statistical categories, including power-play points (5), on-ice rating (+10), and shots on goal (40). Between January 5 and 19, Barron went five consecutive games with multiple points, making him the first Big Red player to record such a streak since at least the turn of the century.
Justin Pearson (Yale) earns Rookie of the Month after recording six points (2G, 4A) in January. Both of his goals were game-winners, as the freshman’s tallies led Yale to victories against Holy Cross on January 12, and RPI on January 26. He also dished out a pair of assists in a 3-2 win over St. Lawrence, giving him at least one point in every Bulldog win during the month.
Jake Kielly (Clarkson) has been named Goalie of the Month for the second time this season after backstopping the Golden Knights to a 6-1 record in January. The junior led the league in both wins (6), and save percentage (.942), turning aside 180 of the 191 shots he faced. He recorded two shutouts during the month, as Clarkson rose all the way to No. 10 in the national polls.
