Beaudoin scores late as Brown ties Colgate

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brent Beaudoin (Londonderry, N.H.) scored an extra-attacker goal late in the third period as the Brown men's hockey team fought back to tie Colgate, 3-3, in Saturday night's ECAC contest at Meehan Auditorium.

Brown (10-10-5, 7-6-5) earned a point in ECAC play for the second straight night after a tie against No. 8 Cornell on Friday. Colgate moved to 8-19-3, 5-10-3.

In addition to Beaudoin, Anea Ferrario (Ogden, Utah) and Chris Berger (Buffalo, N.Y.) also scored for the Bears, while Zach Giuttari (Warwick, R.I.) collected a pair of assists. Brown outshot Colgate, 39-28.

Luke Kania (Chicago, Ill.) stopped 25 shots for the Bears and Mitch Benson made 36 saves on the other end.

"Every game at this juncture is going to be very difficult," said head coach Brendan Whittet. "I think we were a little off in the those first two periods. We got better in the third, and we'll take the tie, a point is a point. I thought Colgate played very well and defended extremely hard. They made it hard to get to the net."

Colgate struck first 4:30 into the game when Adam Dauda capped an odd-man rush with a shot over the shoulder of Kania for the early lead.

Ferrario evened the score for the Bears midway through the period. Max Gottlieb (Old Bridge, N.J.) picked up the puck in the offensive end and sent a pass out to the blue line, where Ferrario ripped a shot through traffic for his second tally of the season. Colin Burston (Winnipeg, Manitoba) added an assist for his fifth point in four games.

Colgate answered right back, however, when John Snodgrass scored nine seconds later to give the visitors a one-goal lead at the first intermission.

The Bears capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play at 17:35 in the second period when Berger scored his fourth goal in as many games. The Raiders responded once again as Snodgrass added his second of the game with 16 seconds remaining in the middle period.

Beaudoin scored an extra-attacker goal at 18:09 to send the game to overtime. Tommy Marchin(Algonac, Mich.) flicked a shot toward the crease that bounced off a Colgate skater, sending the puck into the air, where Beaudoin quickly batted it into the net for his sixth tally of the season.

Kania and Benson turned away three shots apiece in overtime to secure the draw.

Brown will visit Harvard (2/22) and Dartmouth (2/23) next weekend in the final road trip of the regular season.
