Colgate Comes Back to Tie Dartmouth

Colgate Comes Back to Tie Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – A pair of tying goals helped the Colgate men's hockey program force overtime against Dartmouth on Saturday evening, but the pair of ECAC Hockey foes settled on a 2-2 tie after 65:00 of action.

After a scoreless opening period, Dartmouth was first to get on the board early into the second stanza. Although the Big Green offense held the majority of puck possession through the first half of regulation, the Raiders quickly responded by pressing back with a power play tally to tie the game just minutes after the opening goal.

Dartmouth came out strong with 13 shots on goal in the opening period of play, but the zone play reversed once the Raiders hit their stride in the third period when they posted 11 to the Big Green's seven. Although Dartmouth gained its second lead of the night with a quick backdoor play off the faceoff in the third period, Colgate responded once again by matching their even strength goal just minutes later.

The conference foes skated through 11:35 of play in the third period at a 2-2 stalemate before heading to extra play. Colgate's third period shift in momentum carried over as the squad generated an additional three shots on goal in the extra session, but the teams finished square for the 2-2 final.

• Period 2 | 05:46 – The Raiders were able to capitalize on the power play for the second consecutive game as defenseman Trevor Cosgrove produced a low, hard shot at the Dartmouth goal that found its way under the pads of the Big Green netminder to tie the game at 1-1.
• Period 3 | 08:25 – After having Bobby McMann feed the puck across the neutral zone, Josh McKechney was able to split a pair of Dartmouth defensemen and get a quick wrist shot up high in the twine to tie the game at 2-2.
