Colgate Drops League Game at Yale

Colgate Drops League Game at Yale

HAMILTON – The Colgate men's hockey program dropped a 4-2 decision on Saturday night against Yale as it continued ECAC Hockey action.

Yale was able to convert on a pair of power play opportunities early in the game, and built a 3-0 lead after the first period. Although Colgate got a couple of looks through the first half of regulation, its offense couldn't get past Yale's netminder. It was once it became a penalty-ridden second period when Colgate was able to capitalize on a 5-on-3 chance, and again midway through the third period after heavy time in the Yale zone.

Despite a late push with the extra skater in the third period, the Raiders ultimately fell 4-2 to the Bulldogs in conference action. Colgate continues its home stand next weekend with nonconference play against Ohio State.

COLGATE SCORING PLAYS
• Period 2 | 13:21 – While with the man advantage, the Raiders wound the puck around the back of the Yale zone, before Trevor Cosgrove's backhanded poke from the corner sent it up to the blue line. Bobby McMann's pass from the point was fired in by Nick Austin's one-timer to get the Raiders on the board.
• Period 3 | 09:25 – Crossing it across the blueline, John McKechney fed the puck to a waiting Cosgrove at the point. After being blocked down low, Cosgrove's shot was ready to be tucked in by Tyler Jeanson in the slot.

STATISTICAL STANDOUTS
• Getting the Raiders on the board, sophomore Nick Austin tallied his first goal of the season and third career power play goal.
• Behind an assist on Austin's tally, junior Bobby McMann began a two-game point streak and has now posted five points through the season's seven games.
