Dartmouth Closes Out Regular Season With Loss at Brown

PROVIDENCE – The Dartmouth men’s hockey team saw the 2017-18 regular season come to an end in a rather inauspicious manner, falling on the road to Brown, 3-0, Saturday night at Meehan Auditorium.

The Big Green (13-14-2, 11-10-1) had already secured the No. 5 seed in the ECAC Hockey postseason and will play host to No. 12 St. Lawrence next weekend. Games 1 and 2 will be Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. If necessary, a Game 3 will be played at Sunday with a 5 p.m. puck drop.

The Bears (8-17-4, 7-14-1) are the No. 10 seed and will be on the road next weekend.

The home team on this night earned a split of the season series with Dartmouth thanks to a pair of second-period goals from Tommy Marchin and Charlie Corcoran in the final 3:33 of the frame.

Brown potted the insurance marker with 40 seconds remaining on a power-play goal from Max Gottlieb. Picking up his third assist of the game on the final goal was Zach Giuttari. Gottlieb had an assist on the Marchin goal to finish with a multi-point night as well.

It wasn’t for a lack of effort from sophomore netminder Adrian Clark that the Green and White lost in Providence. Clark made four spectacular saves as part of his 24 total stops on the night. At the other end of the ice, however, Bears freshman netminder Luke Kania stopped all 29 shots he faces to earn his first career shutout.

Saturday’s result marked the first shutout loss to Brown since Feb. 18, 1995 when a Bears team coached by Dartmouth bench boss Bob Gaudet defeated the Big Green, 5-0, in Meehan.
