Union wins 20th Game of Season

PRINCETON, NJ – A strong start propelled the Union College men's hockey team to a 4-1 win over Princeton on Saturday night at Hobey Baker Rink.

The win marks the 20th of the season for the Dutchmen, who are now 20-13-1 (15-5-0 ECAC Hockey) on the season. Union has now reached the 20-win mark in seven of the past nine seasons. Union has also reached the NCAA Tournament in five of those six seasons when reaching the 20-win plateau.

Union came out and completely dominated the Tigers in the first 40 minutes of the contest, holding a 35-16 advantage in shots through the first two periods, including a 19-8 advantage in the first.

First year forward Liam Morgan continued his hot streak, netting his fourth goal in as many games to get Union on the board at the 10:59 mark of the first period. Morgan has 12 points on the season, nine of which have come in the past 10 games.

Just over six minutes later the Dutchmen struck again, this time Ryan Walker redirected a shot from Jack Adams for his 10th goal of the season.

With a 2-0 lead to start the second, Union didn't sit back. After assisting on Walker's goal, Adams came out and scored his fourth of the year less than three minutes into the period to put the Dutchmen up by three.

Despite holding a three-goal lead, Princeton started to push back and ended up scoring its lone goal of the game at the 8:37 mark of the second period. After that, both goalies would stop every shot they faced for the remainder of the contest.

In the final minute of regulation, Princeton went with an extra attacker, but Brett Supinski capitalized on the empty net for his eighth goal of the season and to secure the 4-1 win for the Dutchmen.

Neither team scored on the power play, as Union had two chances in the contest, while Princeton only had one.

Jake Kupsky earned his 10th win of the season with 28 saves in the game. Kupsky has not allowed more than 2 goals in a single outing in the past five games, and has recorded a 1.20 goals-against average and a .962 save percentage in that span.

Union returns homes for the final weekend of the regular season, Feb. 23-24, hosting Colgate and Cornell. Both games will start at 7 p.m. (ET) at Messa Rink.
