CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The third-ranked Harvard men’s hockey team were the last team to start playing in 2017-18. There was no rust to speak of in a 5-0 win against Dartmouth on Sunday night at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
Fresh off a trip to the Frozen Four last season, the Crimson exploded for three goals in the opening frame and another two in the second to pick up the ECAC Hockey and Ivy League win in the conference opener for both teams. Dartmouth dropped to 0-2-0 on the young season.
Last year’s Ivy League Player of the Year Ryan Donato scored twice, a shorthanded marker in the first period and a power-play goal in the second.
In all, 12 Crimson players registered points in the win, including goals from Henry Bowlby, Lewis Zerter-Gossage and Jake Horton.
At the other end of the ice, Harvard’s goalie Merrick Madsen recorded his eighth career shutout, stopping all 19 shots Dartmouth managed to throw his way.
The Big Green finished the night 0-for-4 on the man-advantage with the penalty kill thwarting two of the Crimson’s three power-play opportunities.
Dartmouth begins its home slate next weekend with Brown and Yale. The Big Green and Bears kick things off Friday night at Thompson Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
