PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seniors Max Willman (Barnstable, Mass.), Charlie Corcoran (New Canaan, Conn.) and Tyler Bird (Andover, Mass.) all scored goals to lead the Brown men's hockey team past St. Lawrence, 3-1, in Saturday's ECAC game at Meehan Auditorium.
Brown improves to 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the ECAC. St. Lawrence drops to 1-10-1, 0-3-1.
Corcoran also added two assists for the three-point effort, while Willman had one assist for two points. Brown outshot St. Lawrence, 46-25, and went six-for-six on the penalty kill.
Rookie Luke Kania (Chicago, Ill.) stopped 24 shots for the Bears to earn his first career win. Daniel Mannella had 43 saves for the Saints.
Willman put the Bears on top at 9:07 in the first period. Brown took advantage of a 3-on-1 rush, as Cororan skated down the left side and sent a centering pass to Willman, who blasted a shot past Mannella for his first tally of the season. Zach Giuttari (Warwick, R.I.) also earned an assist on the goal.
Brown outshot the Saints by a 19-5 margin in the opening period.
After SLU was called for a five-minute major just 27 seconds into the middle period, Corcoran capitalized with his second goal in as many nights at 2:13, when he rifled a shot past Mannella for the two-goal lead. Sam Lafferty (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) and Tony Stillwell (Green Bay, Wis.) also picked up an assist on the play.
St. Lawrence responded when Jacob Pritchard scored from in front of the blue line at 9:17.
Nevertheless, Brown answered back with another power-play goal at 13:44 to regain the two-goal advantage. The Bears cycled the puck around the zone before Bird snapped a feed from Corcoran into the net for his second of the season. Willman earned the secondary assist on the play.
Brown killed three penalties in the third period to seal the victory.
Brown will visit Quinnipiac on Friday (11/17) at 7 PM.
