Clarkson Loses to Yale

After skating to a pair of ties earlier in the season against Yale Clarkson came up just short in another tight game to the Bulldogs, falling 2-1 at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, CT in its opening ECAC Hockey action of 2017.

Yale scored the deciding goal with 59 seconds remaining.

The Golden Knights, who opened a four-game road trip on Friday, post a 10-9-3 overall record and stand in a tie for fifth place in the conference with a 5-4-1 ECAC Hockey mark. Clarkson plays Brown in Providence, RI on Saturday.

The Green and Gold outshot Yale (7-7-2, 3-5-1) 33-32 on the Bulldogs' home ice, but could not connect on several Grade "A" opportunities as they suffered their third straight road loss. Clarkson was 1-of-4 on the power play and killed off all three of Yale's man-advantage chances.

After a scoreless first period when both teams had 10 shots on net, the Bulldogs took the lead in the second frame with a goal by Luke Stevens at 13:50.

The reigning ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, Clarkson's Sam Vigneault tied it midway through the third with a power-play tally. Vigneault finished off assists from defensemen, junior Kelly Summers and senior James de Haas with a sharp angle shot from below the faceoff circle that surprised Yale's goaltender at 11:02. For the junior center that was his seventh goal of the season and ninth point (4-5) over the past six games.

Yale, however, pulled out the win when the Bulldogs' leading scorer fired in his 13th goal of the season at 19:01.

Clarkson's freshman goaltender Jake Kielly made 30 saves.
