PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Dartmouth men’s hockey team dropped a 3-0 non-conference at Robert Morris Saturday night inside 84 Lumber Arena at the RMU Island Sports Center.
Big Green (2-3-2) junior goaltender Devin Buffalo made 31 saves, allowing just two goals. The Colonials (6-3-2) beat the visiting netminder just twice and hit the open net in the final minutes for the insurance marker.
RMU scored once in each period with Brady Ferguson notching the first of the night 13:45 into the game. Daniel Leavens added the next at the 11:55 mark of the second, the last to beat Buffalo. Timmy Moore hit the back of the empty net with 1:15 remaining to cap the scoring.
At the other end of the ice from Buffalo, Colonials netminder Andrew Pikul turned aside 33 in the shutout, picking up his first career win in the process.
Dartmouth was 0-for-3 on the power play, while RMU was 0-for-5, including failing to score on a five-minute major and a game misconduct assessed to Tim Shoup — an Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, native — at 11:55 of the third.
For the game, Robert Morris held a 34-33 edge in shots.
The two teams will play one another in a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. downtown at PPG Paints Arena, home of the 2016 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
