No. 6 Quinnipiac Dealt Loss At St. Lawrence

CANTON, New York – Nationally-ranked No. 6/7 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey lost to St. Lawrence, 2-0, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at Appleton Arena in Canton, New York. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in ECAC Hockey play. St. Lawrence improves to 5-4-1 overall and 2-0-0 in league action.

Quinnipiac goalie Chris Truehl (Madison, Wisconsin) took the loss despite a 32-save performance on St. Lawrence's 34 shots on goal. Truehl turned back the first 24 shots he saw before a Drew Smolcynski breakaway late in the second period. Quinnipiac was 7-for-7 on the penalty kill and have now killed 23 of the last 24 penalties it has been whistled for.

Both teams skated to a deadlock through the first period of play, with the Bobcats holding a 13-10 advantage in shots-on-goal in a scoreless period. The second period tipped in favor of the Saints as a breakaway goal by Smolcynski with three minutes to play in the middle frame gave St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead. Gavin Bayreuther picked up a loss puck below the blue line in his own defensive zone and sent the outlet pass up-ice to Smolcynski who beat a Bobcats' defender and the roofed a shot past Truehl to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

Early in the third period, St. Lawrence added to its lead following penalties on Quinnipiac's Connor Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey) followed by an interference call on Eric Sweetman one-minute later. SLU's Michael Ederer broke up a pass in the neutral zone and took off through the Bobcats defensive zone, all by himself, before slipping a shot past Truehl to give St. Lawrence a two-goal lead.

Quinnipiac resumes ECAC Hockey play when it hosts Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 11 and Harvard on Saturday, Nov. 12. Saturday night's game can been seen live on SNY at 7 p.m. from High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center.
